All Things Physical
The management of physical projects requires coordinating design, procurement, production, and quality control. My strength is in balancing cost, time, and quality while ensuring safety and compliance.
Samsung – Space Selfie
The challenge of sending a phone to the stratosphere was no small feat, but I was fortunate enough to be involved in the process from conception to launch. As the team leader, I worked alongside a talented group of engineers to build a self-contained camera housing for a Samsung promotional event.
Our first priority was designing the housing and mounts to withstand the extreme cold temperatures of the stratosphere. We conducted two test launches to fine-tune the camera settings and electronics, and our manufacturing team made all necessary adjustments to the camera mounts in time for the final event.
Our team’s collaborative efforts allowed us to successfully sent the phone to the stratosphere and delivered a stunning visual experience for our client. This project challenged us to push the limits of what’s possible and served as a testament to our team’s innovation and ingenuity.
Ellen’s Game of Games
Managing the logistics for Ellen’s game show was no small feat. We faced tight timelines for building large mechanical set pieces, all while adhering to intensive safety guidelines for a fast-paced filming environment.
Over the course of four seasons, I successfully managed teams of engineers and fabricators to build intricate set pieces, including 30-foot trap door mechanisms, robotic arms, and pneumatic game pieces. Our goal was to create visually stunning set pieces that would captivate the audience while ensuring the safety of the contestants.
Thanks to our meticulous planning and execution, we delivered an unforgettable experience for Ellen’s viewers and contestants alike. Our team’s innovation and attention to detail allowed us to overcome the challenges of this complex project and deliver a successful outcome.
Wipeout
Working on WipeOut was a monumental logistics project that presented a host of challenges. The project began with designing and manufacturing large hydraulic mechanisms, but quickly evolved into a strategic exercise in planning and execution.
Our strategy was to design all pieces to be as modular as possible, which enabled us to streamline the planning process and shorten the turnaround time. Despite the immense challenges of moving multi-ton pieces in large tanks in the California desert, our team remained focused, innovative, and agile.
Due to our team’s dedication and expertise, we were able to successfully execute this complex project and deliver an unforgettable experience for our client. This project tested our limits and pushed us to new heights of innovation and ingenuity, and I’m proud to have been a part of it.
Prop Manufacturing
Creating mechanical props for the film industry presented a unique challenge, as we had to balance the need for high-quality products with strict timelines. This required us to leverage rapid prototyping techniques that allowed us to develop reliable mechanical props quickly without sacrificing quality.
Our team often utilized advanced manufacturing techniques and worked closely with specialized engineers in various trades to ensure that the finished products met the high standards of Hollywood directors. While this was no easy feat, we were fortunate to work with some of the best tradesmen in the industry, which enabled us to deliver exceptional products that exceeded our clients’ expectations.
The Magic Castle
The Academy of Magical Arts boasts an exclusive club in the hills of Hollywood, where the art of magic is studied and practiced. As part of my work with the Academy, I had the opportunity to help them enhance their installations and improve their overall infrastructure.
Throughout the process, I worked closely with the Academy to identify opportunities for improvement and create a clear library of supporting documentation. This not only allowed us to improve the Academy’s overall presence, but also helped us to maintain the illusion of their performances and installations.
